Beginners: BHPA or FFVL training

We are a Pilot Development/Progression school, coaching and guiding. We have stepped back from teaching beginners, having done so for the past 30 years.

However, we can recommend the excellent UK based schools for pilots wanting to learn under the BHPA (British Hang and Paragliding Assocation) syllabus. A list of schools in the UK can be found here: BHPA schools in the UK and abroad

If your preference is to learn to fly here in the High Alps and prefer to join a group class, then we can recommend our local schools at Plaine Joux and in Chamonix valley as they all teach to the excellent FFVL syllabus and will have you flying in no time at all. Here is a list. Please contact them directly for information.

In Plaine Joux and Saint Gervais:

A2LParapente

AeroFiz Parapente

Itinerair-Parapente

Chamonix Valley:

Airsports Chamonix

Absolute Chamonix

Chamonix Parapente

Les Ailes du Mont-Blanc

They all teach in English as well as French. Some of their websites have an English section and the French sites translate well into English. Their beginner courses are generally from the spring to the late autumn with very little during the European winter months, December to March.

All these schools also offer Tandem flights throughout the year and are often very busy in July and August when they tend to fly more tandems than offering beginners training.

Having taught beginners here since 1993 our preferable training area would be at Plaine Joux, and the top 3 schools shown above all teach there. Plaine Joux is just outside the Chamonix Valley to the south west, and the flying/training conditions are better there for the new pilot. The flying days are longer, whereas the spring and summer flying conditions in Chamonix valley can be too strong by lunch time, thus shortening the training day!
